Thomas Young, a 46-year-old resident of Chichester, pleaded guilty on Mar. 26 in federal court to unlawful possession of a firearm, according to U.S. Attorney Erin Creegan. The plea was entered before U.S. District Court Judge Landya McCafferty, with sentencing set for July 2.

This case highlights the enforcement of laws prohibiting convicted felons from possessing firearms and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to address illegal gun sales.

Court documents show that Young had previously been convicted of a felony drug offense in New Hampshire. On February 8, 2024, he sold a firearm and ammunition to a confidential source.

The charge carries a maximum prison sentence of up to 15 years, as well as a potential fine of $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release. Sentencing decisions are made by federal judges based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes governing criminal cases.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation into this case with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Krasinski is prosecuting.
