An El Salvadorian national, previously deported three times, has been sentenced for unlawful reentry into the United States. Acting U.S. Attorney Jay McCormack announced that Juan Ruiz, 30, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to time served, equating to two months.

Ruiz had been residing unlawfully in Manchester and is currently in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody awaiting deportation back to El Salvador. He had illegally entered the United States on three occasions before being deported on June 12, 2016; May 18, 2017; and October 14, 2021.

The case came to light when the Manchester Police Department responded to a domestic violence report at Ruiz’s apartment on April 22, 2025. He was arrested for simple assault. Following his arrest, authorities discovered his immigration status and referred him to ICE.

The investigation was led by ICE with assistance from the Manchester Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexander S. Chen prosecuted the case.

This action is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime.
