The United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire announced on Mar. 26 that it is accepting applications for a full-time Official Court Reporter position, with applications open from March 30 to May 4, 2026.

The announcement is significant as it highlights the court’s need for qualified professionals to ensure accurate records of legal proceedings. The position offers a salary range between $108,110 and $129,732 based on qualifications and judiciary guidelines.

According to the court’s statement, candidates must possess at least one year of experience in court reporting—either freelance or within other courts—or an equivalent combination. Applicants are also required to have passed a qualifying examination or be listed on the registry of professional reporters by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or an equivalent body.

Duties include verbatim reporting of proceedings before district and magistrate judges, transcription upon request, producing accurate simultaneous Realtime translation using personal software and equipment, and adhering to both internal control procedures and judiciary policy guidelines. The selected candidate will also need strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure as part of a team.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the country. Employment is considered provisional pending successful completion of a ten-year background investigation that includes reference checks, criminal history review, credit history check, and fingerprinting for an FBI background check. All employees are required to follow a Code of Conduct for Judicial Employees.

Interested individuals should submit their letter of interest and resume in PDF format by May 4, 2026 via email to tom_vanbeaver@nhd.uscourts.gov. Interviewees will travel at their own expense; however, initial video interviews may be considered upon request for non-local applicants.
